Student Volunteer Registry
The Student Volunteer Registry
makes it easy for students and youth leaders to find and
complete volunteer projects that will benefit their own community.
We hope that this program will create both a lasting partnership
between the Comm and local students and also foster a strong
sense of philanthropy that will develop as the students mature
into adults.

We are grateful for the service of all of our student volunteers.
If you have a student who is in need of community service hours please
call Executive Director Maria Wilson at a586-8191 ext. 1.

The Waverly Community House serves as a premier
center for volunteerism in the region. We offer volunteer opportunities for young
and old, to suit every schedule, talent and interest. Many
of our volunteers have served the community most of their adults
lives – doing everything from helping mail Holiday Dance invitations
to chairing a major event. The Comm is proud of its tradition
of instilling a sense of civic responsibility in our youth, many
of whom enthusiastically continue their volunteer work in other venues
and regions as they mature. The Comm is always in need of volunteers.
Please consider the following opportunities:
Special Activities and Programs
The Comm hosts at least three major fundraiser's each year: The
Antique Show in the Fall, The Artisan’s Marketplace in late November
and the House and Garden Show in the Spring. There are dozens of volunteer
opportunities for each show. If you would like to help with a luncheon,
sell tickets, assist with publicity or advertising, or even chair or co-chair
an event, call the Comm at 586-8191 ext. 3 for further information. This is
a wonderful way to involve yourself in the Comm and the community. The
Comm also hosts a number of events, such as the Summer Music Concerts, Java
and Jazz and various children's workshops and parties.
The Family Fun Committee
organizes and hosts the Comm’s programs and events. This committee
meets to organize the annual Halloween Party, Breakfast with Santa and the
annual Easter Egg Hunt and Breakfast as well as Family Movie Night and a Valentine’s
Day workshop. This
is a dynamic group of volunteers who work together throughout the year to benefit
the children and families in the area. It continues to attract members
with each successful event.
Student Volunteer Registry
The Waverly Community House serves as a safe and familiar venue
for area students to pursue community service, whether for school, church ,scouting
or simply the experience of helping others. The Executive Director will furnish
your student with the necessary paperwork or recommendation upon completion
of service. If your student needs volunteer hours or is interested in
helping with a particular event, please fill out the
Student Registry Registration and mail or deliver to the Comm.
The following
passage was prepared by a Junior Scout who recently earned her Bronze
Medal by volunteering at the Comm:

I love the "Comm" playing
both inside, and especially outside in the yard, playground and
on the stage. I wanted to help offer something to the "Comm" to
keep it beautiful and to support the activities we all enjoy. Maria
Wilson and I realized that the outside stage area needed some attention
and care.
As an active member of the Junior Girl Scout Troop
449, I created a special service project that I would lead and the
rest of the girls from my troop could also participate. I decided
to create a beautiful stage garden in which everyone can enjoy as
they walk and play outside. With the help of my
Nana (Shirley Eagen) we designed the garden with perennials that
would make the area beautiful and easy to care for. We
used planters and hanging baskets. The area is now beautiful
and shows off the donation plaque of Mrs. Belin who made this area
possible.
On Sunday, June 4, Nana taught us all how to plant
and care for our garden. We had a great group who all worked
together including Troop Leaders Nancy Jeschke and Laurie Fletcher,
Girl Scouts Cynthia and Salina Anderson, Kaitlin Fletcher, Victoria
and Emily Jeschke, Sarah Myers, Celena Thomas, Christina Volpe and
Amanda Mehall, my mom Gretchen Eagen, my neighbor friends Emily Sandercock
and Marina and Maggie Fitzsimmons, David Anderson and two Abington
Heights Seniors, Mike Byrne and Mike Paolucci.
This project was so special. I earned my Bronze
Medal, but more importantly I learned to work with a whole community
of people who love our "Comm" and who can all enjoy the
beautiful garden we made and will continue to care for many more
years.
