Turn Tale and Run: A Surreal Adventure in Collage
A traditionally trained artist/oil painter, Pamela M. Parsons explores storytelling through paper collage. From tiny fragments of our own visual history–from scientific diagrams, travel magazines, outdated school texts and illustrated children’s books, to old lithographs, discarded maps and collected paper scraps–a little Americana is revealed. Handmade and even wasp-made papers might be incorporated. Parsons repurposes diverse graphic matter, juxtaposing color and image, to create anew intricate designs and off-beat, surreal narratives; out of a cacophonous visual noise she finds order. Her art is delightfully innovative, energetic and decidedly contemporary.
