Upstairs Thrift Shop Manager
Part-Time/ Exempt
Reports To: Executive Director
20-25 hours per week
Position Description
This position oversees the daily operations of the Upstairs Thrift Shop, located in the Waverly Community House. This is a part-time, 25 hour a week position (Tuesday through Saturday), requiring a self-motivated individual with a passion for thrifting, an eye for merchandising, and a commitment to providing an excellent customer experience. This role is integral to the organization’s earned revenue and community outreach.
- Manage daily shop operations including opening and closing procedures.
- Price donated items accurately and competitively based on brand, condition, and market demand.
- Sort, process, and organize incoming donations in a timely manner.
- Create attractive, organized seasonal merchandise displays that drive sales and reflect the shop’s character.
- Operate and maintain the POS system; process transactions accurately.
- Manage and grow the shop’s social media presence to promote inventory and sales.
- Assist in planning and executing shop sales, themed events, and seasonal promotions.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated knowledge of brands, current trends, and the resale/ thrift market.
- Prior retail or resale experience preferred.
- Experience with basic cash handling and POS systems.
- Proficiency with social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram) for promotional use.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends as required.
- Strong customer service skills with friendly, approachable demeanor.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively without close supervision.
- Physical ability to lift, carry, and sort donations as needed.
Preferred:
- Experience working in a non-profit or community based setting.
- Basic photography skills for social media and online listings.
- Familiarity with online resale platforms (eBay, Poshmark, etc.).
- Experience creating short-form video content (Reels) to promote shop inventory and events.
- Experience managing or working alongside volunteers in a supervisory capacity.
