National Women’s History Month Luncheon

March is designated as National Women’s History Month to ensure that the history of American women will be recognized and celebrated in schools, workplaces, and communities throughout the country.

The Comm holds an annual luncheon every year in March to honor women past and present. Each year, we invite a new guest speaker to inspire and challenge us! This is a ticketed event open to the public. Tickets can be purchased online or by calling the Comm office.

The National Women’s History Project, founded in 1980, is a non-profit educational organization committed to recognizing the significant historical accomplishments of women. National Women’s History Month is part of that initiative. A special Presidential Proclamation is issued every year which honors the extraordinary achievements of American women.

Dedicated to nurturing emerging and independent filmmakers from Northeast Pennsylvania and around the world, the three-day festival  promotes cultural awareness and appreciation of film as an art form by exposing local audiences to unique and original cinema. Now in its sixth year, the Festival’s growing reputation is built on a commitment to offer the region access to new and independently produced films by a wide range of emerging and established filmmakers.

The festival screens multiple films, including features, horror,  animated shorts, documentaries, and international films. In addition the event includes an opening night reception, artist tributes, presentations and panel discussions, and the ever-popular Mystery Box Challenge.

It takes place each year in May on the Saturday of Mother’s Day weekend. It is an official electronic chip timed race with awards given out for top finishers in each age/sex division. Official race tee shirts are given out to those who register early. The race always takes place, rain or shine! Registrations are accepted in advance at www.waverlycomm.org and on the morning of the race.
